Appropriate measures for onion crop during hail and unseasonal rains
Onion crop has been damaged due to hailstorm and unseasonal rain in many regions. In such a situation, farmers should implement the following measures.
• If onion crop of 45 to 60 days after planting is slightly damaged, spraying with Tricyclazole @1 g / lit or Hexaconazole @ 1 g / lit or Propiconazole @ 1 g / lit is recommended. Also, water soluble fertilizer 19:19:19 (N:P: K) should be given through water.
• If the plants are completely fallen down, apply Nitrogen: Phosphorus: Potash: Sulfur (soluble fertilizers) 25:20:20:10 kg per hectare through the soil so that the crop grows vigorously.
• After 60 to 90 days after replanting, spray Tricyclazole 1 gm or Hexaconazole 1 gm or Propiconazole 1 gm per lit to prevent disease outbreak. Spray water soluble fertilizer 19:19:19 (N: P: K) @ 10 gm per liter on newly emerging leaves.
• If the onion crop is damaged by rain when it is in the neck fall stage, arrangements should be made to drain excess water from the field. After the field is dry, the onion should be harvested. Let the onion dry in the sun for 3-4 days along with leaves in the field.
• If the kharif onion crop has damaged due to stormy rain or hail and is in the harvesting stage, should be harvested immediately. Harvested onions should be dried and sold immediately.
• If rabi nursery is already in the field, precautionary measures should be taken by spraying fungicide; Tricyclazole @1 g / lit or Hexaconazole @ 1 g / lit or Propiconazole @ 1 g / lit.
• For Onion seed crop: In case of minor damage to onion seed crop, spray with Tricyclazole 1 gm or Hexaconazole 1 gm or Propiconazole 1 gm per lit. Water-soluble fertilizer 19:19:19 (N: P: K) should be given through water. Spraying boric acid @ 1.5 gm per lit helps in seed production.
• In case of rotting of planted onion bulbs, drenching of Streptomycin powder @ 0.2 gm per lit of water should be done.
Along with the above measures...
• When spraying on leaves, sticker @ 0.5 ml to 1 ml per lit should be added in pesticide depending on the growth stage of the crops.
• In case of continuous cloudy weather for more than two days, preventive spraying of appropriate fungicides should be done even if the crop is in good condition.
• If thrips infestation is found, spraying of Carbosulfan (25 EC) @ 2 ml per lit or Fifronil @ 2 ml per lit or Profenofos 2 ml per lit with sticker is recommended.
• Water accumulated in the field should be removed immediately.
