One-day hands-on training programme on "Techniques in Molecular Biology" Under Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) of DST-SERB funded project.

                                                        

ICAR-Directorate of Onion and Garlic Research (DOGR), Rajgurunagar, Pune organized a one-day hands-on training programme on "Techniques in Molecular Biology" Under Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) of DST-SERB funded project "Development of male sterile lines in onion (Allium cepa L.) through targeted mutagenesis of AcMSH1 gene" on 26th March 2022. A total of 15 selected participants which included Assistant Professors and students of Department of Botany and Zoology from Hutatma Rajguru Arts, Science and Commerce College, Rajgurunagar participated in the program. The training was aimed for creating awareness among the students on the basic techniques involved in molecular biology and to provide hands-on training in DNA isolation and PCR techniques. Dr. S. Anandhan, National Fellow and PI of the project formally welcomed the participants and elaborated the theme of the training program and briefed about the basics of biotechnology. Training programme was divided into two sessions, which started with the lecture series followed by the practicals. During the first session on the training programme, lecture on various topics were delivered by Dr. S. Anandhan, Dr. Tushar Manape, Mr. Dhananjay V. Shirsat, Dr. Soumia P. S. and Dr. Pawan Mainkar. Through the second part of the training, participants were given hands-on training on genomic DNA isolation and PCR techniques. The group actively deliberated with the scientists and also gave their feedbacks. In the valedictory session, Dr. Vijay Mahajan Director I/c, ICAR-DOGR emphasised the importance of the biotechnology in the present context and also motivated the students for their career development. He also appreciated the feedback received from the students and teachers regarding the training programme. Certificates were distributed to all the participants under training program. Program ended with the formal vote of thanks presented by Ms. Ankita Chinche.
