ICAR-Directorate of Onion & Garlic Research (DOGR), Pune is a well accomplished institute which focuses on merging innovation with entrepreneurship in Agriculture. ICAR-DOGR is delighted to invite applications for enrolling in Agri-Business Incubation programme 2020-21. Entrepreneurs (Indian citizens) having an innovative business idea in Agri and allied sectors specifically in Onion & Garlic crop can apply by filling the registration form as given in the link below. ABOUT ICAR-DOGR AGRI-BUSINESS INCUBATION CENTRE

ICAR-Directorate of Onion & Garlic Research (DOGR) is a well accomplished institute which targets basic, strategic and applied research on genetic resource management, crop improvement, production and post-harvest technologies for profitable and sustainable production of onion and garlic. ICAR-DOGR developed different technologies which are widely popular among the stakeholders.

Agri-Business Incubation (ABI) centre at ICAR-Directorate of Onion & Garlic Research (DOGR) was sanctioned in the year 2019 by ICAR Incubation Fund (Component II) under XII Plan scheme of IP&TM unit, ICAR i.e. National Agricultural Innovation Fund (NAIF).

Through this ABI centre, ICAR-DOGR would extend support to prospective entrepreneurs by providing technical assistance, consultancy, infrastructure facility, guidance and training for sustainable business establishment.

The main objectives are

·         To scale up the technologies in collaboration with stakeholders

·         To impart training and capacity building to prospective entrepreneurs in agribusiness ecosystem.

TECHNOLOGIES OF ICAR-DOGR FOR BUSINESS ESTABLISHMENT


ONION & GARLIC VARIETIES

ICAR-DOGR has developed ten onion and two garlic varieties based on genetic improvement and selection in the available germplasm at ICAR-DOGR and they are released at national level. More than ten companies have taken non-exclusive license for seed production and marketing of onion varieties developed by ICAR-DOGR with a successfully growing business.

Onion Varieties

1.      Bhima Light Red

Season- rabi; Maturity- 115 Days after Transplanting (DAT); TSS-13%; Marketable Yield- 385 q/ha; Total Loss after 4 months- 25%; Recommended in- Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

 

2.      Bhima Dark Red

Season- kharif; Maturity - 95-100 DAT; Marketable Yield- 20-22 t/ha; Recommended in- Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

 

3.      Bhima Raj

Color- Dark Red; Season- rabi, kharif and late kharif; Maturity- 120-125 DAT; TSS-13%; Marketable Yield- 25-30 t/ha; Recommended in- Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat (kharif and late kharif) and Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana and Delhi (rabi).

 

4.      Bhima Red

Season- kharif, late kharif and rabi,; Maturity- 105-120 DAT; Marketable Yield- 19-21 t/ha (kharif), 48-52 t/ha (late kharif) and 30-32 t/ha (rabi); Storage- Upto 3 months; Recommended in- Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu (kharif) and Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh(rabi).

 

5.      Bhima Super

Colour- Red; Season- kharif and late kharif; Maturity- 100-105 DAT; Marketable Yield- 20-22 t/ha (kharif) and 40-45 t/ha (late kharif); Recommended in- Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

 

6.      Bhima Kiran

Colour- Light Red; Season-rabi; Maturity- 130 DAT; Marketable Yield- 41.5 t/ha; Storage- upto 5-6 months; Recommended in- Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, UP, Haryana, Bihar and Punjab.

 

7.      Bhima Shakti

Colour- Red; Season-kharif and rabi; Maturity- 130 DAT; Marketable Yield- 45.9 t/ha (kharif) and 42.7 t/ha (rabi); Storage- upto 5-6 months; Recommended in- Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, UP, Haryana, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, MP, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

 

8.      Bhima Shweta

Colour- white; Season-kharif and rabi; Maturity- 110-120 DAT; TSS- 11-12%; Marketable Yield-18-20 t/ha (kharif) and 26-30 t/ha (rabi); Storage- upto 3 months; Recommended in- Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

 

9.      Bhima Shubra

Colour- white; Season-kharif and late kharif; Maturity- 110-115 (kharif) and 120-130 (late kharif) DAT; TSS- 10-12%; Marketable Yield-18-20 t/ha (kharif) and 36-42 t/ha (late kharif); Recommended in- Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu (kharif) and Maharashtra (late kharif).

 

10.  Bhima Safed

Colour- white; Maturity- 110-120; DAT; TSS- 11-12%; Marketable Yield-185 q/ha; Recommended in- Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

 

Garlic Varieties

1.      Bhima Omkar

Colour: White; Maturity- 120-135 DAT; Marketable Yield-8-14 t/ha; Susceptible to thrips; Recommended in- Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.

 

2.      Bhima Purple

Colour: Purple; Maturity- 120-135 DAT; Marketable Yield-6-7 t/ha; Recommended in- Delhi, UP, Haryana, Bihar, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka and AP.

 

ONION GRADERS

Hand operated as well as motorized onion graders have been developed by ICAR-DOGR. One company has taken a non-exclusive license for manufacturing and marketing of motorised onion grader and is successfully running the business.

 

ONION STORAGE STRUCTURES

ICAR-DOGR developed bottom and side naturally ventilated onion storage structures have been widely adopted in Maharashtra for storage of onion. Also, Maharashtra State Government provides subsidy for construction of these structures.
