ICAR- DOGR, Pune in collaboration with Kala Biotech Pvt. Ltd, Pune has developed a storage structure for reducing storage losses in onion. Patent is granted for the invention titled “A storage structure for storing onion bulbs and a method thereof” (Patent No: 469459).
In India, it is imperative to store Rabi harvested onion from May to November for continuous supply in the domestic market, processing and export till the Kharif crop arrives in the market. During the storage, considerable losses occur in the form of physiological weight loss, sprouting and rotting. The new technology helps in maintaining the desirable storage conditions for storage of onion with minimum losses.
